DSLR photography, often abbreviated as "DS photography," refers to the use of digital single-lens reflex cameras (DSLRs) for capturing images. These cameras utilize a mirror mechanism to reflect light from the lens into an optical viewfinder, allowing the photographer to see exactly what the camera sees through the lens. When the shutter button is pressed, the mirror flips up, allowing light to hit the image sensor directly, capturing the image.

DSLRs are popular among photographers, both amateurs and professionals, due to their versatility, interchangeable lenses, and ability to capture high-quality images with manual control over settings such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. This level of control allows photographers to achieve a wide range of creative effects and adapt to different shooting conditions.

DSLR photography is used in various genres, including landscape, portrait, wildlife, sports, and macro photography. In recent years, mirrorless cameras have gained popularity as alternatives to DSLRs. Mirrorless cameras offer similar features and image quality but are typically more compact and lightweight due to the absence of the mirror mechanism. However, DSLRs still maintain a significant presence in the photography world due to their established user base, extensive lens libraries, and robust performance.
